Homework Policy

Purpose of Homework:

  1. Reinforce classroom learning and prepare students for new topics.

  2. Help students understand their learning progress and identify areas of difficulty.

  3. Identify students' learning challenges to adjust teaching plans and strategies, provide timely feedback, and promote effective learning.

  4. Assess students' learning performance and provide feedback for curriculum planning and implementation.

  5. Enable parents to understand students' learning progress and characteristics to provide timely support.

Types and Frequency of Homework:

  1. Quality of homework is more important than quantity, considering students' balanced development and healthy lifestyle, avoiding excessive homework load.

  2. Chinese Language, General Studies, Mathematics, English of Daily Living, and Citizenship and Social Development subjects have assigned exercises based on students' abilities. Other subjects are arranged according to students' learning needs.

  3. Chinese Language, Mathematics, and English of Daily Living have homework assigned on class days, while General Studies and Citizenship and Social Development subjects have approximately three homework assignments per week. On weekends and before short breaks, teachers may increase the amount of homework based on students' abilities and needs, including review worksheets, extension activities at home, and online self-learning.

  4. The difficulty, format, and quantity of each worksheet are adjusted based on students' grade level and ability. Each subject assigns 1-4 pages of worksheets per session.

  5. Teachers may recommend suitable commercial exercises for individual students to consolidate their learning.

  6. Apart from written homework, students should utilize their free time for reading, physical activities, games, participating in beneficial social or extracurricular activities, and building good relationships with family, peers, and friends.

Distribution of Homework:

  1. Homework is generally distributed to classrooms before dismissal and handed out by homeroom teachers, recorded in the handbook.

  2. If students are unable to collect homework due to participation in activities/training, absence, or early dismissal, teachers may provide makeup assignments during the next homework distribution.

  3. If parents deem it necessary, they can contact subject teachers to arrange for homework collection at school.

  4. Teachers adjust the amount of makeup homework based on students' capabilities.

  5. If students need to leave early regularly and wish to collect homework in advance, parents should submit a written application to the school in advance for teachers to prepare and arrange.

  6. If teachers are unable to distribute homework immediately due to illness or official duties, homework distribution will be postponed.

  7. If classes are canceled due to school activities or unforeseen circumstances, homework will not be assigned.

  8. During review and assessment periods, homework is generally not assigned. However, subject teachers may assign review-based homework based on students' learning progress and needs.

Arrangement of Homework during Long Breaks:

  1. Through holiday tasks (including sports, household chores, reading, community activities, self-care, work training, handicrafts, STEAM, Chinese culture, character education, and self-directed learning), students are encouraged to effectively plan their long breaks.

  2. Parents can use the student self-learning platform to set focused training tasks in various areas based on their child's learning needs, abilities, and interests, and engage in related activities/training during the break, while guiding self-assessment and improvement.

Roles and Responsibilities of Parents:

  1. Parents should provide a relatively fixed and quiet study environment to create a conducive learning atmosphere for students to concentrate on their homework.

  2. Parents should teach their children time management and help them create a suitable schedule to complete homework on time.

  3. Parents should appropriately supervise their children but avoid excessive intervention (e.g., providing direct answers or completing homework on their behalf) to maintain children's self-learning habits and abilities.

  4. Parents should not substitute for their children in completing homework.

  5. Parents should guide their children in checking homework, reviewing, and making corrections.

  6. Some homework may require the use of computer devices, and parents should pay attention to their children's information technology skills and attitudes, providing appropriate support and guidance.

  7. Parents should communicate with teachers to understand their children's learning progress and provide feedback on their learning attitudes at home. If difficulties arise, parents should discuss solutions with teachers in a timely manner.
